Leisure centres reopen

Leisure centres in Ealing have reopened following changes in COVID-19 restrictions in London.

Everyone Active centres in Ealing managed by sports and leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Ealing Council, have reopened their doors today following a month’s closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The government has confirmed all leisure centres across all tiers will be safe to reopen with strict operational measures in place.

However, local restrictions mean some activities are not available at some centres. Full information on how the tier system affects your local centre is available via the Everyone Active website. There are also a range of online workouts for people to use, along with live streamed classes across its social media pages.

The council is working alongside Everyone to keep customers safe and ensure government guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are met at all times.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for finance and leisure, said: “We are proud of the excellent facilities available to residents across the borough and I am delighted that they are reopening their doors to the public. Staying physically active and healthy is so critical at this time and plays a major role in boosting people’s mental health too.

“I encourage local people to continue to be safe and responsible when planning a visit. We all need to keep working together to follow the measures in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, protect our friends and family and support the NHS.

“Ealing’s facilities will comply with government and public health guidelines to ensure the safety of customers and staff. But everyone can play their part by washing their hands, sticking to social distancing and following the rules.”

Phil Edwards, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We’re very much looking forward to reopening our centres and welcoming back the local community.

“After being closed for a month, this announcement is the news the leisure industry has been eagerly awaiting.

“It is very important to give people the opportunity to resume activity and exercise in their leisure centre, particularly during the winter months, and this will go a long way to maintaining the good health of local communities.

“We would also like to thank Ealing Council for their support, which has proved invaluable during this challenging year.

“Ensuring our colleagues and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the strict measurements to ensure we adhere to the guidance.

“We will be contacting all customers directly over the coming days regarding the centres reopening. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and thank them for their patience.”
