The borough’s much‑loved Hanwell Carnival is set to return, offering a day that showcases the best of local culture and community spirit.
This year’s event will be held in Elthorne Park on Saturday 20 June, with activities and entertainment planned throughout the afternoon.
Hanwell Carnival was first hosted in 1898 and is considered one of London’s longest-running community celebrations, bringing people together for a day of music, culture and creativity, as well as family fun and food.
This is a free event and will take place in Elthorne Park, Boston Road, from midday to 6pm.
A community celebration
Organisers are ready to welcome back thousands of visitors after taking a break from the festivities last year to raise funds for the event.
Ealing Council is supporting the carnival with a £5,000 contribution through the Your Voice Your Town initiative, designed to support community-led change in each of the borough’s 7 towns. and help bring community events, like the carnival to residents.
Council leader Peter Mason, said: “When communities come together like this, it strengthens pride in place and helps people feel more connected and secure. These moments matter – they are part of what makes our borough a shared and welcoming home. That is why we are pleased to support Hanwell Carnival through Your Voice, Your Town.”
While rising costs mean the parade will not take place this year, there remains a full programme of activities to enjoy.
A fun day out
There will also be a number of stalls run by local traders including a food zone offering a rich mix of cultural cuisines and a craft tent. You can also expect:
- a showcase of music, dance and sporting talent on The Community Stage
- live performances from bands including: The Hanwell Ukulele Group, The Grim Face Marys, Those Dirty McGuffins, and more
- an Animal Zone with petting zoo and donkey rides
- the ever-popular dog show
- a funfair, children’s area and entertainers
Local pride
The organisers see the carnival as a vital source of community celebration, cultural exchange and local pride.
Des McManus, a carnival committee member, said: “Since the last carnival, we have worked hard to strengthen the event and are determined to give everyone in Hanwell and beyond a great day out this year. The support we have had from the community, local businesses and funders has shown us how much the carnival means to people.”
Councillor Lauren Wall, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, added: “Hanwell Carnival is something people really care about. It’s a chance for everyone to come together, celebrate where we live and feel part of something. That sense of connection is what helps people feel safer too, which is something local people said really matters in Hanwell, so it’s brilliant to see it supported through Your Voice, Your Town.”
