Copley: Latest regeneration plans revealed

Residents can see plans for the latest phase of the Copley Close redevelopment in Hanwell when they are revealed at a public exhibition tomorrow (Thursday, 19 January).

Copley is a leading part of the council’s ambitious programme of modernising and remodelling old estates across the borough. A comprehensive council review of Copley identified a need to refurbish and replace the ageing social housing there. Residents and businesses were consulted about the proposals and the resulting masterplan won ‘best conceptual project’ at the prestigious London Planning Awards. You can read a feature we ran on the work there.

The exhibition will focus on the area opposite Castle Bar Station. Regenerating this area – which will be known as Copley Castle Bar – will involve the demolition of all existing buildings opposite the station, including Merioneth Court and Hereford Court. The old buildings will be replaced with new, high quality homes, retail units and two landscaped public squares.  There will also be dedicated ‘doorstep play areas’ for children.

Around 200 new homes will be built on the site, including several new houses.  All of the new homes will have their own private gardens or large balconies.

Up to three new retail units are also planned, one on the south of the new main public square and a second larger unit on the north side that could be split into two, and may comprise of a café and community use.

Copley Castle Bar will have ample cycle parking to encourage residents to use this greener, healthier and often quicker form of transport.

Copley will also be welcoming Enterprise Car Club to the neighbourhood, so residents can enjoy all the benefits of a car without the costs of owning one, with low-cost hourly and daily rental.

The public exhibition will take place in the former Copley management office at 187 Copley Close. This is next to current shop and community centre building, and just across the road from the train station. The exhibition will be open to the public from 3pm to 7pm on 19 January.

Staff from the Copley management team will be on-hand to answer your questions. Local councillors will also be in attendance, as will members of the residents’ steering group.

All residents are encouraged to attend the public exhibition. No appointment is necessary; simply drop-in at any convenient time between 3pm and 7pm on 19 January.
