Community hubs: support close to home

Did you know you can get help with online applications, advice about council services, and other support at the borough’s community hubs?

Ealing Council manages 8 community hubs across the borough’s 7 towns, including one at Greenford Library, in Oldfield Lane South, which now has a new ‘walk-in’ service.

Since Wednesday 7 October, residents have been able to just pop in to the hub on the first floor of the library on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and speak with a member of council staff. Previously, you had to make an appointment to go there.

Staff at the hubs are not just able to offer you help there and then, they are also able to point you to other local organisations that can offer you more support.

Not sure where your nearest community hub is? You can check that out, and find out the opening times, on the council’s website.

Help on your doorstep

Councillor Steve Donnelly, the council’s cabinet member for inclusive economy and efficiency, said: “We want residents to be able to access council services easily. We know people value having someone to talk to face-to-face, and our hubs provide a welcoming place where they can get the support they need, and close to where they live.”

An important part of the community

Libraries play an important role in local communities, providing books, information, computers, and activities. Greenford Library became a community-managed library in October 2025. That means it is run by a group of local volunteers working in close partnership with the charity Young Ealing Foundation, and Ealing Council.

By expanding community hub services at Greenford Library, the council is making it easier to find support close to your home – and avoid having to make a visit to a busier hub where waiting times might be longer.

Look out for the winter edition of Around Ealing magazine, where you will be able to read more about what the library has to offer, and about the people who work there. For more information about upcoming events at the library, or how to get involved, go to the library’s website.
