Ealing Town Hall has been lit blue every Thursday evening in support of the NHS during lockdown.
For the final time the Town Hall will be lit up as part of the #LightItBlue campaign, inspired by the NHS Clap for our Carers, marking the 72nd birthday of the NHS.
From Thursday (2 July) through to Sunday (5 July) the town hall will be lit up in blue in solidarity, and to support the final clap for NHS staff, social care workers and carers.
The #LightItBlue campaign was inspired by the Clap for our Carers movement, which has been a national expression of people in communities across the UK taking to their doorsteps and windows to celebrate and thank keyworkers for their hard work and dedication.
At 5pm on Sunday, take part in the national thank you by clapping on your doorstep for our NHS and all key workers in a major national moment.
Join your neighbours to thank everyone who is helping us through these difficult times, from carers and helpers, to friends and family, and to make a promise to each other to get through the months and years ahead, together.
On the evening of Saturday, 4 July, you may also wish to put a light in your window (an LED candle, lamp or torch) to remember those we have lost.
Council leader, Councillor Julian Bell said: “My sincere condolences to those who have lost loved ones during this pandemic. Saturday evening gives us all a chance to remember those we’ve lost and to show our support to those that are grieving.
“Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, there has been an overwhelming show of support for the NHS and key workers across the country, as the health and social care system remains crucial in tackling the virus.
“We clapped for the NHS throughout the lockdown, and we will #LightItBlue to commemorate the 72 years of NHS service we have received and reflect on how much we continue to benefit from the NHS and from our NHS heroes.
“We want to show our support and gratitude to the NHS and its staff, who have consistently gone over and above the call of duty to serve us all, both locally and nationally during this challenging time. We also celebrate social care workers, carers and other key workers, who continue to work tirelessly to keep essential services running for Ealing residents.”
The NHS began on July 5, 1948, revolutionising the healthcare system by ensuring everyone had access to free quality healthcare.
Ealing Council joins 32 London boroughs across London that have confirmed they will join in this major national moment, on Sunday, 5 July at 5pm.
