Free youth event added to Ealing Summer Festivals line-up

Get down to Walpole Park in Ealing next Tuesday (26 July) for the New Gen Festival: A new, free festival created by and for young people, featuring Afrobeats, hip hop, R&B, dance, open mic, DJ, and creative industries sessions.

The New Gen Festival, supported by Ealing Council and Ealing’s Cultural Education Partnership, has been put together by people from Bollo Brook Youth CentreDescendentsWAPPYDelveCody Studios, and the council’s arts and culture team.

Creative industries sessions

As part of the festival young people are invited to attend free creative industries workshops and panel sessions for insight into careers in film/TV and music.  Sessions will take place throughout the day from 10.30am to 5pm and will be held in venues around Walpole Park.

The free sessions include workshops on film pitching and becoming a DIY music mogul. And there will be two panel sessions, one focused on film which will include experts including Aaron Rogers, director of photography for Game of Thrones, and another focusing on music with experts including producers and artists with Amun and Ayüü. 

All sessions are free to attend but must be booked in advance by completing the google sign-up form.

Taking over the Ealing Summer Festival site

Over in Walpole Park, at the Ealing Summer Festivals site, activities will take place from 2.30pm until 9.30pm.

The programme includes:

  • 2.30pm till 6pm: take part in a drop-in fashion shoot to try your hand at camera and lighting and enjoy a youth market with fashion brands
  • 3pm to 5.30pm: on the main stage enjoy Youngstars X Press with DJ Chantz, the WAPPY Open Mic, plus street dance, soca, and Afrobeat dance workshops, and professional dance sets (This session is aimed at 10 to 16 year olds)
  • 5.30pm to 9.30pm: listen to live music from Afrobeats, hip hop, and R&B acts Amun, Ayüü, Drigyy, Bala Bala Boys, Tazzyi and more.
