If the sunny weather and prospect of increasing energy bills is making you wonder if switching to solar power might be the way forward, then a new group-buying scheme could be for you.
Ealing Council has partnered with Harrow Council and Switch Together to offer a scheme which gives homeowners the opportunity to have solar panel equipment installed. And it works a bit like a bulk-buy discount. Instead of each household shopping around on its own, residents can join the council-backed scheme and their combined buying power is used to negotiate competitive prices from accredited suppliers.
Generating your own electricity through solar panels could lower your electricity bills and is also better for the environment and less polluting. There are already more than 3,000 homes in the borough with solar panels.
Councillor Dominic Moffitt, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Rising energy costs are a worry for many people especially when prices can be made worse by global events such as the conflict in the Middle East. Installing solar panels can help households take control of their energy bills and protect themselves from future price rises. As well as saving money, solar energy is a clean, renewable source of power that reduces pollution and helps tackle climate change.”

Residents can register free of charge on the Switch Together website until the end of Ealing Climate Week on 27 September 2026.
