An early years teacher sits at a blue table in a classroom, helping a group of young children with their workbooks and pencils. The classroom has a large green chalkboard, colourful wall decorations, and a play area canopy in the background.

Not all heroes wear capes: stars in our schools

Do you know someone who works in one of the borough’s schools who really goes the extra mile? Someone who makes a difference every day and deserves recognition?

Ealing Council believes its schools are made special by the people who work in them – and that dedication deserves to be celebrated.

Every role matters and we want to celebrate the unsung heroes in our schools, from headteachers, teachers and teaching assistants to caretakers, business managers, reception staff and school crossing patrols. We want to hear about the people that make our schools great.

We don’t just want to hear about big achievements, we’re interested in the small, everyday things that make a big difference too. Has someone brightened your day? Supported you as a parent through a challenging time?Encouraged your child when they were struggling or doubting themselves?

‘It’s more than just his teaching’

Parents at Oaklands Primary School, in Hanwell, nominated nursery teacher Mr Jeffreys as their school hero for being funny, kind and an excellent role model for their children.

Here’s what else they had to say: “The children absolutely adore him, he brings great energy to the classroom, makes learning fun.

“But it’s more than just his teaching, Mr Jeffreys consistently goes above and beyond his role, taking on gruelling ultra-marathons to raise much needed funds for the school. Since 2023, he has raised over £4,000. His energy, dedication and genuine care for the pupils make a real difference every single day, and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.”

Do you have someone like this working in your school or helping your child who you think deserves top marks? Tell us what makes them so special that they brighten your school day.

Let us know about your Ealing school hero by emailing aroundealing@ealing.com. Tell us who they are, why they deserve to be recognised, and how they make a difference. They could be included in a special issue of Around Ealing magazine and part of a campaign celebrating schools across the borough later this year.
