‘Making our borough feel safe’

Our borough is an amazing place, but people can only enjoy all the things that our borough has to offer is if they feel safe to do so. Making sure everyone feels safe when you are out and about, especially after dark, is a driving mission for the council.

Over the last 4 years the council has taken steps to make our borough feel safer. The focus has been to deliver practical improvements that offer reassurance, prevent crime and antisocial behaviour (ASB).

Keeping you safe

We have now invested £13million to tackle antisocial behaviour, burglary and violent crime. This funding has it possible to increase visible policing and joint patrols, boosting inspector level capacity and placing more than 20 officers along the Uxbridge Road. The council has renewed the boroughwide Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) after extensive resident consultation and expanded enforcement powers to Parkguard, contributing to a 30% increase in proactive patrols.

This investment has also supported the expansion of public safety CCTV and coordinated enforcement on licensing, major events and local problem solving.

Safety is built through working together with local communities. Strengthening the Safer Ealing Partnership has improved joint working, data sharing and integrated responses across the council, police, health, probation, the voluntary sector and fire services. A new Hate Crime Strategic Partnership and Operational Group are now in place, supported by a public consultation on a new boroughwide Hate Crime Strategy.

All 24 Safer Neighbourhood ward panels are now active, giving residents direct oversight of local policing. These panels, alongside the Stop and Search Monitoring Group, ensure accountability, transparency and community influence over decision making.

These improvements are already making a difference. Residents are seeing a greater visible presence in their neighbourhoods, more consistent enforcement through joint patrols and PSPO powers, and stronger identification and response to crime, ASB and hate incidents. Most importantly, our strengthened partnership culture is helping to create a more connected, preventative approach to keeping people safe.

We are using all our powers to make our borough safer and ensure that antisocial behaviour is punished. We are on the side of the vast majority of people in our community who play by the rules and want our borough to be a place of safety and respect. The council will continue to deliver a safer borough making improvements to ensure people feel safe and ensuring we work with the police to tackle bad behaviour.
