Preparing for critical incidents

An interactive emergency response roadshow is being held to showcase how the borough is prepared for a range of emergency situations.

Residents and community groups are invited to attend the event on Saturday 13 September, from midday to 4pm at Acton Fire Station, in Gunnersbury Lane.

The event will highlight the vital work emergency services do in a critical situation and is designed to promote public safety in an emergency such as a terrorist attack, significant chemical leak or widespread flooding.

The free, family-friendly community event brings together Ealing Council’s borough resilience partners including London Fire Brigade, NHS, London Ambulance Service, Metropolitan Police, military and Environment Agency. Community and voluntary organisations will also be attending for a day of live demonstrations, hands-on activities and educational engagement.

The event aims to raise awareness of local risks and encourage residents and emergency partners to interact. It also aims to educate attendees on how to prepare for emergencies, with practical examples and guidance. There will be an opportunity to see and try equipment from the emergency services through live demonstrations.

Each organisation will showcase its capabilities, vehicles, and equipment, offering the public a rare behind-the-scenes look at how emergencies are managed and responded to.

Highlights of the day include:

  • live rescue demonstrations, including a police motorcycle display and riot gear and fire hose practice
  • interactive screens showing emergency vehicles and equipment
  • CPR and first aid tutorials
  • emergency planning games for children and young people
  • a stall offering information and advice about emergencies
  • free gourmet burgers, including vegetarian options, and refreshments

“This roadshow is not just an exhibition — it’s an opportunity to equip our residents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to stay safe and resilient in the face of emergencies,” said Councillor Jasbir Anand, the council’s cabinet member for tackling crime and antisocial behaviour. “By bringing together our emergency services and the community in an engaging and interactive way, we’re building stronger connections and a safer borough for everyone.”

The emergency response roadshow is open to all ages, and while entry is free, booking is required. Book your place on Eventbrite.

Additional information:

The mayor of Ealing, Councillor Anthony Kelly, who will also be attending the event, said: “This event is part of Ealing Council’s commitment to building community resilience and a better understanding between residents and emergency services.”
