Have your say on local transport issues

How do you travel around the borough? Whether it is by Tube, car, bike or on foot, or a combination of all of these, your chance to have a say on local transport issues has arrived.

If you live in the borough, you can help shape the future of its transport network by taking part in a public consultation.

Ealing Council wants your views on its plan for proposed transport projects, both large and small, for the next three financial years, from 2019/20 to 2021/22.

What is the plan for?

It is called a local implementation plan (LIP) and is mainly funded by Transport for London. All proposals need to tie-in with the Mayor of London’s strategy for transport in the capital as a whole; and the LIP must also build on the borough’s own transport strategy, which was approved in the summer.

The main objectives are to:

  1. Encourage an increase in walking, cycling and use of public transport
  2. Reduce the environmental footprint of local transport
  3. Improve road safety.

These three objectives are underpinned by the guiding principle of aiming to improve residents’ health and well-being – through better air quality, safer travel and supporting the local economy.

The LIP includes measures such as introducing a borough-wide 20mph zone on council-managed roads; creating a network for electric vehicle chargepoints; school travel plans to reduce traffic and get more children walking and cycling to school; and targeting road safety ‘hotspots’.

Have your say now

The consultation will be open until Friday, 7 December 2018, and you will be able to comment and add your suggestions.

What happens next?

Once feedback and suggestions have been considered and a final LIP is put together and agreed, it will replace the previous version which ran for the period 2014-2017. You can take a look at this document for reference.

Exact details of the individual projects in the new LIP would then each be worked up and put out for consultation again, as each one is ready.
