Swap, learn and bag a freebie

ReActon, the borough’s reuse and repair site, is back with a fresh line-up of activities designed to help residents reduce waste, save money, and support sustainability.

Taking place during the borough’s first ever Ealing Climate Week, residents are invited to the ReActon site in Stirling Road, Acton, on Saturday 27 September for a fun, family-friendly day from 11am to 2pm.

The event, organised by Ealing Council, in partnership with West London Waste Authority, promises plenty of chances to learn, share, and take positive steps to help the environment.

Highlights of the day include:

  • a free school uniform shop and swap – pick up primary and secondary school uniform or donate what your children have outgrown.
  • free household paint giveaway – perfect for your next DIY project, featuring small mix-and-match paint donated as part of the Community RePaint project
  • free sewing kits from Ealing Repair Café, to help make your clothes last longer (limited stocks)
  • pick up a free food waste bin – and learn how food waste recycling works in the borough (limited stocks)
  • expert advice – ask questions and get tips on how to recycle right and reduce what ends up in your bin for Recycle Week, taking place this week

And don’t forget….

Bring along you old Halloween costumes to donate to the next ReActon swap shop, which is being held on 25 October where you can choose a different spooky outfit to take home. Costumes and accessories must be clean and in satisfactory condition.

You can also donate clothes, hangers, small electrical items, and Terracycle items to one of the drop-off stations. Small electrical items collected will be used in a free repair workshop for unemployed people wanting to gain electrical fixing skills, run by Action West London and West London Waste Authority. Repaired items will then be donated back to those in the community, who need them the most, via local charities.

If you can’t come along on the day, these items can be recycled at Greenford Road reuse and recycling centre.

Why it matters

At the last ReActon event, more than 150 school uniform items were put back in use, helping scores of families who visited the swap.

‘Every small action helps’

Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Whether it’s swapping school uniforms, donating Halloween costumes, or picking up a free food waste bin, every small action helps us reduce waste and build a more sustainable borough.

“I encourage everyone to come along, get involved, and see how easy and rewarding reusing and recycling can be.”
