Whether it’s enjoying a picnic, going for a stroll, playing sport or dancing at a music festival, the borough’s parks have so much to offer.

Last year, the borough showed once again that it has some of the best parks in the UK when it was awarded 23 Green Flags. The flag scheme, run by Keep Britain Tidy,  recognise parks that are maintained to the highest standards and offer excellent facilities.

Plans are also progressing for the new West London Regional Park, linking more than 500 hectares of parks, waterways and green spaces across the boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. The vision includes new walking and cycling routes, improved wildlife habitats and better access to nature for everyone.

In 2022, Ealing Council committed to creating 10 new parks and investing £2million to improve playgrounds.

The new parks are almost complete – with many of them open and others in the final stages of work, so that they will also be ready to enjoy this summer.

Where are the new parks?

Pear Tree Park

Pear Tree Park in Perivale opened in 2024 and, since then, volunteers and the council have planted thousands of trees – including pear trees in an orchard – and other plants to rewild the site. The former cafe there has been transformed into Pear Tree Park Bistro.

There are also plans to create wetlands at Pear Tree Park to reduce flooding and encourage wildlife. To learn more about the proposals and share your views, information sessions are being held at Pear Tree Park Bistro on 17 March from 3pm to 7pm and Saturday 21 March from 10am to 2pm.

South Ealing Cemetery

Ealing Parks Foundation volunteers and the council have transformed the older section of South Ealing Cemetery into a park.

Occupation Lane

The finishing touches are being made to a ‘play-on-the-way’ park for children to hop, skip, jump or run along at Occupation Lane in South Ealing. A cycle path and rain garden planting beds are also being added.

Glade Lane Canalside Park, Southall

Overgrown land has been transformed into a vibrant park with wetlands, new paths and a pair of 15-metre-high mounds for people to climb and enjoy fantastic views of west London. The finishing touches are being put to a new sports court, outdoor gym and playground.

Warren Farm

Warren Farm was this week declared by the council as London’s newest nature reserve. The 24.8 hectare will be preserved for wildlife and meadow habitats.

There will also be a new community sports hub created on an adjoining parcel of land.

Acton Gardens and Southall’s Green Quarter

Acton Gardens, Central Plaza is a key hub for the community, with green places to sit, play and exercise, and a new children’s playground. A community playground also opened in Southall’s Green Quarter housing development.

A new park and playground will be created at the Twyford Abbey development currently being built in Ealing for Clarion Housing Group.

Windmill Lane, Southall

A new pocket park is taking shape in Windmill Lane, creating a small but welcoming green spot for locals to pause, play and enjoy a bit of nature on the go.

Blacklands in Greenford is getting a whole new look – and even a new name, which will be announced soon. The space is being transformed into a welcoming park with a nature‑themed playground for adventurous kids, plus new outdoor gym equipment for anyone looking to get active in the fresh air.

Playgrounds

Seven playgrounds have already been refurbished with 7 more due to be complete and ready for summer fun. Playgrounds getting an upgrade include: Lammas Park and Walpole Park in Ealing; King George’s in Hanwell; Wesley Gardens in Acton and North Acton Playing fields.

‘More places to relax, explore and enjoy…’

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “Our parks and green spaces are at the heart of what makes it such a great place to live. It’s fantastic to see so many improvements taking shape – from new play areas and upgraded facilities to exciting projects like the West London Regional Park. These investments are all about giving residents more places to relax, explore and enjoy nature close to home.”
