Solar Together London

Join over 800 local households and save money on solar panels

Ealing residents can benefit from the recent success of London’s first ever council-led group buying scheme for solar panels.

So far, more than 800 households across the borough and over 3,700 in London have registered for Solar Together London. If all the registrants lived in one terrace of houses, each five meters wide, the terrace would stretch over 10 miles.

After a one-day auction process, the prices to be offered to the group are between 10% and 41% below the market prices indicated.  All registrants will soon be sent their personalised offer to an installed Solar PV system.  And they will be offered an average savings of 35% on solar panels for their homes.

An example of the saving would be for a home, which was quoted for 10 solar panels on its roof. This would have cost of approximately £4,620 in the current market but with the Solar Together London auction result it would now cost only £3,210, a saving of over £1,400.

Solar Together London is a scheme approved by Ealing Council, working in partnership with the Mayor of London. The idea is that, by grouping together, residents and small-medium sized businesses can secure very competitive prices to have solar panels fitted.

They can then benefit from generating their own cleaner – and cheaper – electricity. It is the same principle that has been used by groups of residents to get cheaper gas and electricity deals.

The auction winning contractor is Southwark based Solarcentury in partnership with IKEA Group. Solarcentury is one of the world’s leading solar energy companies, developing, installing and operating PV systems for homes, businesses & solar farms since 1998.

The scheme aims to offer the chance to get high quality competitively priced solar panels with a guaranteed installation by a reputable installer for sustainable energy. It also offers the opportunity to save on energy bills and earn money from the solar power that is generated.

Council leader Julian Bell said: “The mayor’s Solar Together London scheme is a fantastic step to help private home owners adopt clean energy, save money and help to tackle climate change, joining 500 Ealing Council-owned homes already fitted with solar panels.

“The benefit of having increased buying power is an opportunity not to be missed. We want Ealing to remain one of the greenest boroughs in London and increasing the generation of clean energy is a vital step on that journey.”

Registration will remain open to households within London until 15th June 2018. After registering on www.solartogether.co.uk/ealing, householders will be able to review their personal offer to get an understanding of the cost, and the potential discount, that they could secure by buying through the group scheme. It is free to register and there is no obligation to buy. For more information call the iChoosr help desk on 0800 0606 509 Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5:30pm.
