‘It’s great to play a festival so close to home’

We are just a few days away from the sixth Hanwell Hootie this Saturday (12 May) and one of the 90 performers at London’s biggest free, one-day music festival tells us why she plans on enjoying the day. Hannah Scott lives in Acton and will bring her stripped-back acoustic sound to The Green W7 at 4.30pm.

What should people expect from seeng you live?

It’s an acoustic show with me on guitar and my collaborator/co-writer/producer Stefano Della Casa on cello.

How would you describe your sound, and what inspires it?

I’d describe it as ‘contemporary folk’. The songs are melodic and the production is classically inspired and epic sounding.

When it comes to your lyrics, what are your influences? What subjects are you interested in singing about?

Lyrically, they’re honest songs about the human condition and human connection in an increasingly hectic world.

The Hootie is presumably your first festival gig of the summer. Does it feel different to play an event like this?

Festivals are my favourite kind of gigs to play – the environment is really relaxed, you have a good mix of people and music. I’m local too (I live in Acton) so it’s great to play a festival so close to home.

It is pretty unusual as festivals go, free to attend and with 15 different venues and buses ferrying people to and fro. What do you think of the concept?

It sounds amazing and hopefully means there’ll be music to cater for all tastes. It’s great for the local community too.

Will you be checking out the other bands before or after you go on?

Yes, I’ll be seeing who else is performing before and after my set and plan on spending the day listening to lots of other acts.
