Get repairing

The council is supporting London Repair Week from 11 to 17 March 2024 by encouraging you to use a new net zero waste map of the borough. The week celebrates everything related to repairing and is designed to encourage greater use of existing repair services in the capital.

Zero waste in the borough

Food and clothes banks, refill stores, repair services to charity shops and even water refill fountains all help to create an economy where things are kept in use for longer periods. Check the zero waste map and find local repair businesses.

You can also help to update the map. If you know of a place that offers repairs, it can be added to the map. Send your suggestions – name of the business, what they do and address – to recyclingteam@ealing.gov.uk.

Events in the borough

Check out the events taking place at Ealing Repair Café during London Repair Week. Run by volunteers, the café aims to encourage and help you to value clothing and repair or alter rather than bin it. Join in the following events, no booking required:

  • Tuesday 12 March 1pm – 3pm – Mend and Natter at West Ealing Library – a donation of £3 to cover costs
  • Thursday 14 March 6pm – 7.30pm – Mend and Natter at W3 Gallery in Acton – a donation of £3 to cover costs

Learn to reuse and repair the items you love at the Reduce and Recycle Hub at Acton Market, which runs on the first Saturday of the month.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, said: “We’re already the second best borough in London when it comes to recycling. But we know we need to reduce waste overall if we want to achieve our ambition of becoming a net zero borough by 2030. We cannot achieve this on our own, that’s why we want to encourage residents and businesses to avoid waste in the first place by re-using and repairing, using our net zero waste map. From jazzing up clothes in the back of the wardrobe to fixing phones and laptops instead of binning them, London Repair Week is a great opportunity for all of us to learn how we can help make valuable resources last longer.”
