Love sport? Fancy a go at cricket? Get free coaching

Sporty pupils can join a free cricket coaching programme starting in January.

Open to all abilities, aged 11–15 in the borough, the sessions are run by the MCC Foundation (MCCF) at Featherstone Sports Centre, Southall.

To take part, you can sign up now for a trial that is being held on 20 January. The 10-week programme will aim to promote physical and mental wellbeing, teamwork, and confidence, and offers opportunities to play matches. Participants may even get the chance to play at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground – the historic home of Middlesex and England cricket.

‘A fantastic chance’

Tanuj Danee, one of the MCCF coaches and hub manager, said: “We had a great response after Around Ealing ran a story about last year’s programme, and we are hoping to see the same enthusiasm again.

“Join us for a trial – you’ll never know if this is the sport for you unless you give it a go. This is a fantastic chance for children and families across the borough to get involved.”

The sports centre, owned by Ealing Council, also hosts a wide range of community activities – from a climbing wall and fitness classes to holiday programmes and much more.

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “Cricket and other team sports are fantastic for bringing people together, especially young people. It encourages teamwork, friendship, and confidence, while giving families across the borough a chance to come together and celebrate sport.”

Once the coaching programme ends, participants will have the chance to compete against other newly-trained cricket hub’s from across London. The finals will take place at Lord’s in September 2026.
