The local elections take place tomorrow (Thursday 7 May). But, why are they happening? Why does your vote matter so much? And what do you need to take with you?
Across the borough, people will be going to their polling stations tomorrow (Thursday) if they did not choose to vote by post. And they will get to choose from a selection of candidates standing in their ‘ward’, or neighbourhood.
The borough is broken down into 24 wards. And there will be councillors elected to represent each one. So, you will choose who you would like to represent you and your ward.
Ultimately, the political party with the most elected councillors will lead Ealing Council for the next 4 years, until 2030.
Councillors
In 22 of the borough’s wards, electors will have the choice of choosing 3 councillors to represent them; while, in the other 2 wards they will choose 2 councillors. There are links to the list of candidates standing in each ward on the council’s website.
A councillor’s primary role is to represent their ward and the people who live in it. They also oversee the work of the council and make decisions for the area. The political party or grouping with the most councillors will set the council’s strategies and priorities.
Ealing Council
The council provides and manages hundreds of services and facilities across the borough, including adult social care, leisure centres, parks, libraries, bin collections, many schools, street cleaning and council housing.
The local elections will decide who runs these vital services, affecting the lives of the borough’s more than 385,000 residents.
Where do I vote?

Remember your ID
You must take an acceptable form of photo ID to the polling station, such as your passport or driving licence. A full list of acceptable forms of ID is available to see on the council website.
