Spring is in the air – and everywhere flowers, trees, birds and insects are emerging into warmer and longer days. So why not treat your family to a trip to Walpole Park and some of the events and activities celebrating nature this Easter?

The Rickyard Centre is playing host to an array of outdoor, art and educational events in the coming weeks – from woodland walks and nature spotting to crafts and climbing. It is perfect for families looking for fun and learning over the holidays. 

There will be a number of activities taking place for families with children aged five years old and upwards. Morning activities start at 10.30am, afternoon activities start at 2pm and those attending should meet at the Rickyard café.

Easter Holidays (week one)

• Saturday 6 April – nature craft: crown making (morning)  and Easter scavenger hunt (afternoon)
• Wednesday 10 April – pond dipping at the Serpentine lank (morning and afternoon) 
• Thursday 11 April – park parcour: a sensory trail using park furniture (morning) and 12 tremendous trees in one hour: identification class (afternoon)
• Friday 12 April – wildlife walk (morning) and gardening club (afternoon). 

Easter Holidays (week two)

• Saturday 13 April – living medicine walk: guided by an expert herbalist (morning – email to book) and Family Fun Aerobics (afternoon) 
• Sunday 14 April – the big plant sale: Buy and browse, with all proceeds going to local good causes (all day)
• Monday 15 and Tuesday 16 April – forest school in Lammas enclosure. Pre-book via Facebook (morning)
• Wednesday 17 April – bees, birds, bugs: Create bird feeders, bug hotels, bee hives and more (morning). Nature craft: elderberry jewellery-making class (afternoon)
• Thursday 18 April – mosaic and clay art: Crafts class with a local artist (morning and afternoon)
• Friday 19 April – gardening club: Make a mini garden (morning) and family friendly jog around the park (afternoon).

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, the council’s cabinet member for finance and leisure, said: “The Rickyard is a great space for learning and we are also taking activities out into Walpole Park wherever possible. 

“I think it’s hugely beneficial for young people to engage with nature and these activities are providing local children with the perfect opportunity to do just that.

“I encourage families to plan a trip to Walpole Park this spring and enjoy a fun and educational day out in one of the borough’s most beautiful green spaces.”
