Crackdown on troublemakers

Council officers and police are stamping down on antisocial behaviour across the borough in response to concerns raised by residents.

During Antisocial Behaviour Awareness Week (29 June to 5 July), Ealing Council highlighted some of the recent action being taken to tackle issues such as drug-related activity, intimidation, fly-tipping and street drinking across the borough.

Councillor Jasbir Anand, the council’s cabinet member for tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, said: “Residents regularly tell us that antisocial behaviour is one of the issues that affects their quality of life the most. That is why we are taking action where problems arise.

“There is a wide range of work taking place across the borough, from closing down properties linked to criminal activity to increasing patrols in areas where residents have told us they want to feel safer.

“While the council is using the powers available to us, we continue to press for a coordinated response from all partners, including the police, to ensure residents see the action they expect and deserve. By working closely with police and other partners, we are making it clear that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Officers are also enforcing the borough’s Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), which gives powers to tackle issues such as street drinking and behaviour that causes nuisance or distress to others.

Increased presence in Southall

Concerns about increased antisocial behaviour around Southall Broadway have led to an enhanced response from the council and police.

This includes increased uniformed patrols, daily visits by the council’s antisocial behaviour patrol service and additional CCTV monitoring. Officers are also speaking directly with residents and businesses to address concerns and gather information.

Taking action in Northolt

In Northolt, the council’s safer communities team secured an extension to a court order keeping a property in Maiden House closed. Residents had reported antisocial behaviour linked to drug use and dealing at the address.

Working closely with the Metropolitan Police, in June council officers secured a further 3-month extension. The property will remain closed while possession proceedings continue. This will help protect nearby residents from further disruption.

Problem property closed in West Ealing

Further action was taken in West Ealing, where the council obtained a court order to close a property in Felix Road. The action followed extensive evidence of persistent drug-related crime, antisocial behaviour and serious nuisance.

Residents had repeatedly reported suspected drug dealing, frequent visits by drug users, intimidation, fly-tipping, street drinking and other nuisance linked to the address and its occupants.

Despite previous attempts to address the problems, the behaviour continued. Working with police and the local community, the council secured the order to prevent further harm and help restore a sense of safety for residents.

Extra patrols in Acton

In Acton, the council has continued to work with police through Operation Broad Oak. The initiative is designed to tackle persistent antisocial behaviour and drug-related activity, particularly in hotspot areas.

As part of the work, security patrols have increased from 4 days a week to 5. Officers are also working with residents and businesses to understand local concerns, gather feedback and strengthen links with the council’s CCTV control centre.

Report it

If you witness anti-social behaviour or criminal activity taking place, report it to the Metropolitan Police on 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergencies. Reports help build a picture of ongoing issues and support enforcement action.

Ealing Council’s Safer Communities Team works closely with the police and other agencies to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour and can provide advice and support on wider community safety concerns. Contact the team on 020 8825 5994 or safercommunities@ealing.gov.uk.
