Be part of Ealing Climate Week

Ealing Council’s first ever Climate Week is soon to be celebrated with a series of events to highlight the everyday ways you can save money and improve your health and wellbeing by tackling the climate crisis.

Ealing Climate Week: Better Living from 20 to 28 September, will feature a variety of activities designed to reinforce the connection between climate action and everyday life, and inspire people to make changes.

Dozens of events, organised by the council or its partners, are already planned. These include:

  • a school uniform swap
  • repair cafés
  • advice sessions on how to reduce your energy bills
  • low-cost food markets
  • sewing sessions
  • film screenings
  • car-free play streets for children
  • bike rides

Get involved

Residents, businesses and community organisations are invited to get involved by organising their own event or being part of existing activities happening during Ealing Climate Week.

Anyone who wants to hold their own event must register on the Ealing Climate Week website.

Partners who have signed up so far include Ealing Repair Cafe, Act for Ealing, Cycle Sisters, the Felix Project food distribution charity, Oxfam and Ealing GoodGym.

Participants can decide which events or activities they would like to host, but ideas for inspiration could include:

  • clothes, toy or book swaps with neighbours or at your school
  • a car-free play street with other families on your road
  • an allotment sharing some of its autumn produce or teaching people how to grow their own herbs

Play on Car Free Day

Children – with adult supervision – can reclaim their street for a few hours and enjoy traffic-free play at no cost.

World Car Free Day on 22 September takes place during Ealing Climate Week. As it falls on a Monday, it will be marked in London on Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 September.

The council will waive its usual road closure fee and provide support to neighbours to host their own Play Street. Applications must be received by 4 August. Note that not all streets are eligible and will be subject to a review. More information is available on the council’s website.

Ealing Council leader Peter Mason said: “Our first ever Ealing Climate Week is about highlighting the everyday ways that residents can save money, improve their physical and mental wellbeing and build connections in our communities through tackling the climate crisis. We want to make it easy for everyone to lead more environmentally friendly lives which aren’t just good for the environment but make their lives better too.

“The council has been working to tackle the climate crisis in ways such as planting 50,000 new trees by next year to improve air quality and offer shade from hot weather, investing £28million in the past year to make it safer and easier to walk, cycle or wheel their way around the borough and helping 15 community organisations to install solar panels since 2023.”

Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action said: “We were recently rated among the top 5 councils in London for our work to tackle climate change and we hugely value the fantastic work being done by residents, community organisations, charities and businesses. During Ealing Climate Week, we want to showcase this work, highlight the benefits of making more sustainable choices and inspire people to take action.

“Be part of Ealing Climate Week – whether you want to hold or run an event or help spread the word.
