‘We want towns we can all be proud of’

Economic growth should be felt by everyone in our borough and across all 7 of our towns.

Good growth has been a key priority for the council, and we have delivered a new approach to ensure investment made in the borough transforms lives and strengthens communities. We want growth that provides local people with fulfilling and high quality jobs within the borough, that ensures people can get a decent home and that gives us towns we can all be proud of.

Our new community led Regeneration Charter sets out a clear promise that local people will shape the future of their neighbourhoods. By embedding local identity and lived experience into the design of new development, we can ensure regeneration is fair, transparent and responsive to the needs of seldom heard groups.

Independent community and design review panels also help raise the quality of new development, while recent reviews of conservation areas ensure our heritage is protected and respected.

More than buildings

Growth in Ealing is not just about new buildings. It is about shaping better places. Through our good growth agenda, we are reinvesting the proceeds of development into improved public spaces, more affordable homes, new jobs and stronger local services. This is how we ensure change is felt positively by every resident.

When new buildings are proposed, developers are required to contribute to the places around them. Since 2022, Section 106 agreements have raised around £47million to support things like new schools, GP surgeries, community facilities and affordable homes. This funding is already helping to improve the areas where people live, work and spend time.

We are also preparing to introduce the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) a simple, transparent charge on most new buildings paid by developers. Following an independent examination, CIL is due to be introduced in March and is expected to raise several million pounds each year. This will support new or upgraded schools, health facilities, community spaces and transport infrastructure.

Ealing was recently recognised as one of the top 12 planning authorities in the country, providing a platinum standard decision making service. We are leading in London and among the very best nationally. This reflects our commitment to prompt, sound and resident focused planning decisions.

Over the last 4 years we have delivered a huge amount to ensure that the growth we see benefits everyone. We are on your side in ensuring that every time feels the benefit of growth.
