Culture has always been synonymous with our borough and our heritage. The borough has long been a powerhouse of British culture. 

It is home to the renowned Ealing Studios, birthplace of the iconic Marshall amplifier, host of the London Mela and a centre of Britain’s vibrant Bhangra scene, and the cradle of British rock music through the pioneering Ealing Club.  

It has also nurtured remarkable creative talent, from filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, whose Bend It Like Beckham captured modern British multiculturalism, to actors such as Alan Rickman and legendary musicians like Freddy Mercury, helping cement the borough’s place in the nation’s cultural story. 

The cultural sector also forms a key part of our local economy. The creative industries employ around 2,000 people locally. They are good quality, high skilled jobs in an industry where the UK leads the world. They are exactly the kind of jobs we want to attract as a borough to ensure all our residents have decent, well-paid work.  

It has long been our mission that all residents benefit from the borough being at the forefront of global culture and everyone feels that their culture is recognised and valued as part of our heritage. That is why we stated in our cultural manifesto that we are seeking to create 367,100 creatives. 

Part of our commitment to fostering the creativity of our residents is bringing cultural venues to the borough. At the last election we committed to a new West End quality venue in our borough and we will soon be consulting with you on how we will make this a reality.  

Given the incredible talent we produce, you should not have to leave our borough to experience excellent culture. We want to inspire the next generation of local creatives as well as welcoming the world to experience the creativity of our borough.  

We are hoping to move the West End west and we look forward to sharing our plans with local people in the months ahead.
