Ealing has a long and valued connection with Kathmandu as one of our town twins. We are deeply saddened by the devastating floods that have struck Nepal, causing tragic loss of life, widespread displacement and significant damage to communities and infrastructure. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones, been injured, or seen their homes and livelihoods affected by this disaster.

News of the devastation has been felt keenly across our borough. Through our enduring links with Nepal’s capital, we have seen first-hand the warmth, resilience and spirit of its people. At this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with the residents of Kathmandu and communities across Nepal as they begin the challenging task of recovery and rebuilding.

We are also thinking especially of Ealing’s vibrant and proud Nepali community, which is one of the largest and most established Nepali diaspora communities in the United Kingdom. Many residents will have family members, friends and loved ones directly affected by these events, and we recognise the anxiety and distress that this situation is causing here in our borough. We urge those that can to support diaspora relief efforts.

On behalf of Ealing Council and the people of our borough, I offer our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and our sincere support to everyone affected. The ties between Ealing and Kathmandu, and the strength of our Nepali diaspora community, remind us that events thousands of miles away are felt deeply here at home. We stand with Nepal at this difficult time and send a message of friendship, compassion and hope.
