Running for the NHS – and other ways to say thanks

My latest video update is above. Like many of you, I went out on to my doorstep last night (Thursday, 16 April) and, again, thanked our NHS, care and key workers for all the brilliant things that they’ve been doing to help us during this COVID-19 crisis.

As Ealing Council, we lit up the town hall blue and we plan to do that every Thursday. And I want to encourage as many of you as possible to clap, and thank, our NHS, care and key workers each week.

Also, I think many of you have seen the story of Captain Tom Moore, the war veteran who, in his 100th year, has been doing 100 laps of his garden? Incredible.

He has raised over £15million for NHS charities together and I know many of you have been giving to help in this way financially and, if you go to the council’s website, you can also see ways to donate locally to some of our local charities who are helping us with Ealing Together. Now, one of the other things people are doing is going out and running for our NHS and that is what I’m going to do.

I did a run and used my GPS tracker to make a line on North Acton playing fields which, hopefully, you can see spells out ‘NHS’.

Again, we know that we are going to be in lockdown for at least another three weeks in order to stop the spread of the virus.

We are not at the top of the curve, as far as infections are concerned. So, keep following the social isolation rules.

Also, if you do exercise in our parks over this nice, sunny weekend, then follow those social distancing rules.

And, above all, please stay at home. You’re protecting our NHS and saving lives.
