We want residents of the borough to be able to walk, cycle or scoot to everything they need to do, and everywhere they need to go, while getting around in their day-to-day lives.
The council’s commitment to this over the past 4 years of the Council Plan has guided a major programme of improvements to roads, cycling routes and local infrastructure: making everyday journeys safer and more convenient.
The borough’s long term cycle network plan, published in 2024, outlines a clear approach to delivering safer, more accessible routes. Since the completion of the new cycle path in Kensington Road in Northolt, cycling levels have risen by 30% within 6 months.
We are also offering training and support to build people’s confidence on the roads. Since 2022, almost 6,000 children and more than 1,700 adults have taken part in Bikeability sessions, helping people of all ages travel with confidence. The borough also recently welcomed its 50th school street, creating safer, cleaner and calmer spaces at school gates.
Free ‘Dr Bike’ repair sessions continue across Hanwell, Ealing, West Ealing and Southall, ensuring residents can keep their bikes in good working order.
Maintaining safe, reliable roads is vital for all travellers getting around the borough. More than 7,500 potholes have been repaired since 2023, around 10 every day, supported by major resurfacing works such as the recent overnight programme in Church Road and Mandeville Road in Northolt.
We are also investing in the transition to cleaner transport to improve the air we breathe and do our bit to combat climate change. We now have more than 1,000 electric vehicle charge points already in place and plans to more than double this by 2030.
We are delivering cleaner and safer travel around the borough. We know that having clean travel choices available is crucial to improving people’s health, reducing harmful emissions and getting people where they need to be for work and play.
