Our high streets are the heartbeat of the borough’s 7 towns – places where we shop, meet friends, and support local businesses. As leader of Ealing Council, I’m making sure the council delivers on keeping them vibrant and welcoming for everyone.
Since 2022, the council has delivered real investment – more than £1million to improve our high streets. From revamping parades to creating spaces for community events, this work is about bringing people together and boosting local trade.
Earlier this year, we secured £50,000 through the Mayor of London’s High Street Place Labs programme to breathe new life into West Ealing, turning vacant shops into vibrant spaces and tackling anti-social behaviour. We’re making sure these changes benefit everyone.
Supporting local businesses is central to our approach. Small businesses and start-ups make the backbone of the local economy, so we’ve launched an Affordable Workspace Delivery Plan to create spaces they can afford. New workspaces have already opened in North Acton Square and Greenford Quay, and more are on the way. The council is delivering opportunities for growth across all of our 7 towns.
We’re also helping residents gain skills and start new careers. Through our Learn Ealing service, hundreds of people have taken courses, including the Startup School for Seniors, which has helped older residents launch businesses from jewellery to fitness training.
Our commitment goes beyond investment. We’re enforcing standards to protect shoppers and honest businesses – with more than 6,000 food safety inspections and major seizures of illegal goods since 2022.
High streets are the beating heart of our 7 towns. We know that people value their high streets as places to work, play and shop. That’s why the council is doing all we can to enhance all of boroughs high streets to keep them as bustling and vibrant places to be.
