‘Help that makes a real difference’

spotlight on cost of living

When times are tough we all rely on our community to help us. This support comes in many forms. Today, as rising costs continue to put pressure on households across the borough, the council is doing what we can to support residents and enhance community support.

Our focus has been on delivering practical help that makes a real difference. That is why we have strengthened support for those on the lowest incomes, expanded access to warm and welcoming community spaces, and worked with partners to put money back into residents’ pockets. This collective effort is already bringing progress.

Help at hand

Our council tax support scheme is now one of the most generous in London, offering up to 100% discount for households on the lowest incomes. Thousands rely on this lifeline, alongside other help such as discounts, exemptions and emergency assistance. We are also using benefits data to identify families who may need extra support, making sure supermarket vouchers reach low income households, under-5s and care leavers at key points in the year.

Through partnership working, we have secured £2.8million in pension credit for older residents, boosting weekly incomes when it matters most. And by collaborating with Thames Water, 810 households are now receiving an automatic discount — saving an average of £469 a year without the need for applications or forms.

Our Holiday Activities and Food programme continues to support around 4,000 children each year with free activities and meals during school breaks. Healthy Homes Ealing is offering tailored advice, green doctor visits and access to energy saving measures. Warm community spaces across the borough are welcoming residents seeking company, support or simply a safe place to stay warm.

All these measured are focused on ensuring everyone receives the support they are entitled to. In tough times the council is on your side.
