Cracking down on fly-tipping

The council is declaring war on fly-tipping. Fly-tipping is unacceptable anti-social behaviour.

By choosing to throw waste on the street fly-tippers are ruining peoples’ neighbourhoods whilst simultaneously disrespecting the vast majority of people who make the effort to dispose of their waste responsibly.

The council spends £3million per year on the clearing and disposing of fly-tipping, which could be better spent on care for the elderly, providing additional housing, or supporting schools.

Whether it be a single bag of rubbish or heap of household furniture, fly-tipping is a blight on our streets and has a direct impact on the environment we all live in.

‘This is our home, not a tip’

We know more needs to be done to put a stop to this, so we’ve launched a campaign to crack down on fly-tipping. The new campaign ‘This is our home, not a tip’ will see targeted information pushed to residents and businesses in hotspot areas.

The campaign will explain what fly-tipping is, what it costs the council, how to properly dispose of waste and make use of council services such as the bulky waste collection service and Greenford depot, and how to report fly-tippers and fly-tips.

We know the majority of fly-tipping comes from commercial outfits failing to properly dispose of waste and we need local people to help us report them.

Taking firm action

At the start of this month, fines were increased from £400 to £1,000 so offenders will be hit harder, we are already the leading borough in London for issuing fly-tipping fines and we are sending a clear message that this criminal activity will not be tolerated.

Dealing with waste

You can report fly-tipping via the Love Clean Streets app or the council’s website.

Visit the council’s website to find out how to properly dispose of your waste, including details of the bulky waste collection service.
