A cleaner Christmas

spotlight on cleaner streets

I would like to wish everyone who is celebrating across the borough a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It’s this time of year when many of us will be doing the traditional pre-Christmas big home clean ahead of family visits. As a council we’re doing the same.

The borough is our home and we’re determined to keep it clean, green, and thriving. Over the past year, we’ve stepped up the fight against fly-tipping, because dumped waste isn’t just unsightly it costs residents and damages our environment. That’s why we’ve increased fines to £1,000 and issued more than 2,000 penalties in just 7 months. Our message is clear: ‘this is our home, not a tip.’ There is also a ‘name and shame’ page on the council’s website so you can help us catch the illegal dumpers.

But enforcement is only part of the story. We’re working with residents and community groups to make a real difference. From autumn leaf clearances to community clean-up kits, together we’re keeping our streets safe and tidy. And, thanks to our Greener Ealing Ltd, street cleanliness is improving year on year.

We’re proud that we now have the second-highest recycling rate in London at 49.2%. Initiatives like the Library of Things and our partnership with Traid are helping residents save money, reduce waste, and learn new skills. And with ReActon set to become a hub for repair and reuse, we’re building a circular economy right here in the borough.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful festive break and I look forward to the council continuing to deliver for residents in 2026.
