Ealing's Jobs & Skills Fair.

Inaugural jobs fair a major success

Ealing’s first Jobs and Skills Fair saw more than 800 hundred interested residents visit the town hall to speak with potential employers and enhance their employment prospects.

The event hosted on Thursday, 24 May by Ealing Council in collaboration with employers and partners from across the borough including A2Dominion, Catalyst and Shepherds Bush Housing as well as JCP and Shaw Trust.

Ealing Mayor, Councillor Tejinder Dhami and Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for Business & Community Services opened the fair welcoming and thanking employers, providers and residents.

Residents had the opportunity to see more than 30 employers and providers including UK Border Force, Travelodge, UPS, Heathrow, Screwfix and London Fire Brigade. There was also workshops which provided training on motivation for employment, apprenticeships, budgeting and CV writing.

The council already has a number of projects that assist residents in finding employment. From the WEST (work, education, support, training) project, apprenticeship network and the skills escalator project which upskills residents in low paid work claiming housing benefits.

An added feature to help residents in finding employment, training and support is the recently launched Work WEST website. This brings together all the partners in the borough who have something to offer Ealing residents.

Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for Business & Community Services, said: “It is amazing to see such a positive contribution from all the partners who have been working together to make this event happen. The purpose of this jobs fair is primarily to get employers and relevant partners in one room to support residents who are looking for jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities.

“I would like to thank our Housing Association colleagues who have played a major role and I hope we continue to work together to provide our residents with the best employments prospects in the future.”
