Top of the class for Ealing’s schools

Ealing schools were quick to respond to the outbreak of coronavirus and the lockdown that came into place.

The majority of Ealing’s 85 schools have remained open so that children of key workers and other eligible children could continue to attend. They have cared for more than 700 children, allowing parents and carers to carry out the vital work they are doing to provide services for everyone. This is one of the services highlighted in an infographic setting out Ealing’s response to the pandemic in the first four weeks of lockdown.

Staying open outside of term times

Schools have stayed open not just in term time but also throughout the Easter holiday period and many will remain open through the coming bank holiday.

510 school staff including teachers, cleaners, classroom assistants and caretakers have worked in their own school settings and many have volunteered to help in other settings.

Thank you

Councillor Yvonne Johnson, Ealing Council’s deputy leader and member for schools and children’s services, said: “Those who work in our schools rightly take their place next to our NHS staff and other key workers who are crucial in our efforts in battling this virus.

“They are supporting families across the borough through this difficult time, and the selfless dedication they show every day is very much appreciated.

“I have always been immensely proud of every school in Ealing. The resilience, teamwork and tireless dedication is what makes our schools truly outstanding.”
