New online service for free school uniforms

Families across the borough can now access free school uniform more easily, thanks to a new partnership between Ealing Council and Uniformd.

The council’s school uniform project has teamed up with the online platform to introduce a new click-and-collect service, allowing families to browse online stock, reserve the items they need, and choose a convenient collection point.

Ealing Council is the first local authority in the UK to list free school uniform stock on Uniformd, helping families access good-quality uniform for free while giving clothes that children have outgrown a new home.

Shop online, collect locally

Orders can be collected for free from:

  • ReActon Hub, Stirling Road, Acton, W3 8DJ
  • Northfields library, Northfield Avenue, W5 4UA

More collection points will be added across the borough, so keep an eye on the ActforEaling website, which has the most up-to-date list.

Helping families save money and reduce waste

The project started in August 2025, collecting good-quality unwanted school uniform and redistributing it to local families through hubs and pop-up events across the borough.

Items include branded and unbranded primary and secondary school uniform, such as shirts, skirts, trousers, jumpers, sportswear, footwear and school bags.

The new partnership has been announced during Circular Economy Week, which celebrates ways to reduce waste and keep products and materials in use for longer.

So far, the project has supported more than 265 families, saved more than 800 uniform items going in the bin, saved almost 2 tonnes of carbon emissions and helped conserve more than 330,000 litres of water. That is enough water to fill a bathtub 2,000 times.

‘Making it easier for families’

Councillor Dominic Moffitt, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “We know how quickly children grow out of school uniform and that buying replacements can be another cost for families. By putting our free uniform stock online, residents will be able to see what is available and choose the items they need before making the journey to collect them.

“It also means more good-quality clothes can be used again rather than thrown away. We’re really pleased to be the first council to work with Uniformd in this way and to make our free school uniform project even easier for families to use.”

Anna Wright, founder of Uniformd, said: “All families deserve access to affordable, sustainable clothing – school uniform included. We’re proud to be working with Ealing Council to help provide access to high quality, pre-loved uniform to the families in their borough.”
