Residents and businesses are being invited to have their say on plans for a new London Overground rail service linking Acton and Old Oak Common with destinations across west and north-west London.
Under Transport for London’s (TfL) proposals, up to 6 trains per hour would travel along the West London Orbital line from Hendon to Hounslow via Old Oak Common, Acton, Brent, Cross, Neasden, Harlesden and Brentford. It is proposed to pass through 2 stations in the borough – Acton Central and South Acton.
The proposed 18.5-kilometre route would follow rail lines currently only used for freight across west and northwest London.
According to TfL, the new route could generate 11,500 jobs and up to £1.3billion in wider economic benefits. Around 25,000 new homes could also be built. The scheme could also remove around 650,000 car journeys a year, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality. Feedback will help TfL and partners to understand how people may benefit from or be affected by the scheme. It will also help to identify concerns and capture ideas to strengthen the scheme.
Ealing Council is working closely with TfL on the proposals to ensure maximum benefit for the borough.
Council leader, Peter Mason said: “This is an important proposal that could affect many people across the borough. While the council is making representations to TfL, it is vital that residents’ voices are heard. Whether you support the proposals, have concerns or questions, this is your chance to have a say.”
