Residents, landlords and people living in shared housing in the borough invited to take part in a workshop exploring views of houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
The free workshop will take place on Thursday 17 September, from 6pm to 8pm, at Perceval House, Uxbridge Road, Ealing.

Ealing Council wants to hear directly from people about their experiences and views of HMOs.
HMOs are shared homes where people from different households live together and share facilities such as a kitchen or bathroom. They are an important type of housing for many residents, but can also affect local neighbourhoods.
The workshop is open to:
- local residents
- HMO landlords
- people living in HMOs
- community groups and anyone else interested in the issue
The session will provide people with an opportunity to discuss what is working well, share any challenges, and raise issues they believe the council should consider in the future. It will also look at the powers and responsibilities of local authorities in relation to HMOs.
Activities will include:
- small group discussions
- interactive exercises
- sharing experiences and perspectives
The feedback gathered will help the council better understand how HMOs affect local communities and inform future thinking and potential policy considerations.

Councillor Louise Brett, Ealing Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for safe and genuinely affordable homes, said: “For many people, shared accommodation is one of the most affordable ways to access housing, but we know that many others have concerns about the way those homes are managed.
“If you have an interest in the private rented sector, I hope you can join us at this event. Your views and experiences will help us better understand how HMOs affect local communities and inform future thinking and potential policy considerations.”

The council is also seeking views on plans to continue its licensing scheme for smaller HMOs. The current licensing scheme ends in April 2027, and the council is proposing to extend it for up to another 5 years.
The scheme helps to make sure that rented homes are safe, well managed, and meet legal standards. It is also used to address problems such as overcrowding, poor housing conditions, fly-tipping, noise complaints, and antisocial behaviour.
