Do you want to see how one of the borough’s green spaces has been transformed into a vibrant community garden? Visit Hanwell DIG’s open day on Sunday 6 September and find out for yourself.

Get involved, meet volunteers, or sit back and soak up the atmosphere at Hanwell DIG, Green Lane from 1-4pm. Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply curious about community growing, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The free event, organised by Cultivate London, is an opportunity to explore the site and learn more about the work being done to support community growing, environmental education and biodiversity in the borough.

Cultivate London is a horticultural charity and social enterprise that runs projects across west London and leases the land at Hanwell DIG from Ealing Council.

‘More than gardening’

Louise Briggs, Cultivate London’s community manager, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming local residents to Hanwell DIG and sharing what we have been building together. This space is about so much more than gardening. It’s about creating friendships, improving wellbeing and working together on shared projects to benefit the community.”

“Whether you want to grow your own food, spend more time outdoors, learn new skills or simply meet your neighbours, there is a place for you here. We hope the open day inspires people to see the potential of this wonderful site and join us in helping it flourish.”

A much-loved community hub

Hanwell DIG has blossomed into a thriving community garden, bringing people together to learn new growing skills, support local green initiatives and make a positive difference to the area’s environment.

Visitors will be able to speak to members of the Cultivate London team at the open day, learn about volunteering opportunities and find out how the organisation supports greener, healthier neighbourhoods in the borough.
There will also be stalls from other site users including Mindfood, Ealing Carers Partnership and the Urbantrailblazers.

Councillor Dominic Moffitt, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Addressing climate change starts in our communities. Hanwell DIG is a wonderful example of how local green spaces can support wildlife, promote sustainable living and bring people together. We are proud to support Cultivate London’s work, and I hope the open day inspires residents to play a part in creating a greener future for the borough.”
