Discover your options after Year 11

Whether you’re waiting for GCSE results or preparing to begin Year 11 in September, it’s never too early to start thinking about your post-16 options.

For many young people, deciding what to do after Year 11 can feel like a big step. A new guide from the Ealing Learning Partnership (ELP) aims to make that decision a little easier.

A free post-16 route planner is available now to help Year 11 students and their families understand the choices and opportunities available after finishing their exams.

How can the planner help?

The handy guide is aimed at students who will be starting Year 11 in September, as well as current Year 11 students preparing for GCSE results day.

Whether you are interested in A levels, college, apprenticeships, T Levels or another route, the guide brings together information on courses available in the borough, and the places that offer them.

It is designed to help young people compare their options and make informed decisions about their next steps.

Developed by Ealing Learning Partnership (ELP), which brings together schools and the council, the guide supports educational excellence and wellbeing for learners across the borough’s 7 towns.

Chris Richards, of Villiers High School, one of the schools which will be encouraging students to use the guide, said:

“Students feel rushed to make decisions on results day. Resources such as this will help them to slow down and really consider their choices before enrolling onto a course.

“This route planner shows young people what the borough has to offer and allows them to understand which institution might best support them and their preferred pathway. It helps students and their families see the full range of opportunities available and understand where different pathways can lead.”

Help before and after results day

The guide is best used during the autumn and spring terms of Year 11 when young people are exploring post-16 options and deciding their next steps. However, it can also be useful if plans change after GCSE results are received.

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for a fairer start, said:

“There are more choices than ever for young people after Year 11, but knowing which option is right for you can be difficult.

“The post-16 route planner brings together clear information about the choices available across the borough and explains where those choices can lead.

“I encourage parents, carers and young people to look through the guide together. Whether you are waiting for GCSE results or starting to think about the future, it is a great place to start.”

The post-16 route planner is available to view on the Ealing Council website and can be used alongside advice from schools, careers advisers and family members to help young people plan their next steps.
