Have you ever thought about using your language skills to help your community? If so, a new interpreting opportunity from Learn Ealing could be your next step.
Ealing Council’s adult learning service is inviting residents to explore its community interpreting course and book an assessment this summer. The course can help to build skills, confidence, and pathways into paid work.
People who have taken part say it offers practical, real-world experience alongside essential training in areas such as safeguarding and professional standards. For some, it has also provided opportunities to support local community projects and see the impact of interpreting first-hand.
Aisha Mirza, from Greenford, completed the level 1 community interpreting course. She said: “I really enjoyed the volunteering opportunity through the course, with a Ukrainian community project. It allowed me to apply my skills beyond the classroom and see the impact of interpreters in practice.”
Reza Melek, from Acton, is retired and has been a volunteer interpreter for more than a decade. “I signed up for the course because I wanted to understand professional principles, boundaries and standards,” he told us.
“During the course, a highlight for me was observing a Ukrainian support project in action, which helped me see how much structured community interpreting matters.”

The course is open to anyone interested in using their language skills to support others or looking to find employment in interpreting.
Assessments are taking place in June and July to help match learners to the right level. The course will begin in September.

“Learn Ealing’s wide range of courses can help you back into employment, to reskill, or even to upskill too. Many are free and you can learn online or face-to-face.”
