Elections results are in

The Labour Party will form the administration of Ealing Council after winning a majority of seats in the local elections last night (Thursday 7 May).

The party secured 46 of the 70 seats on the council, giving it an overall majority. This means the Labour Party will control the council for the next 4 years until 2030.

The new political make-up of the council is:

  • 46 Labour Party
  • 13 Liberal Democrats
  • 5 Conservative Party
  • 5 Green Party
  • 1 Independent

Voter turnout was 43.5% from a total electorate of 250,275.

In total, 70 candidates were elected to the council: with 22 wards each being represented by 3 councillors and the remaining 2 wards each being represented by 2 councillors.

A councillor’s primary role is to represent their ward and the people who live in it. They also oversee the work of the council and make decisions for the area. The political party or grouping with the most councillors will set the council’s strategies and priorities.

The council provides and manages hundreds of services and facilities across the borough, including adult social care, leisure centres, parks, libraries, bin collections, many schools, street cleaning and council housing.
