Leisure centres get £2.5million upgrade

Bigger and better gym space, a new Pilates studio and upgraded changing areas are among £2.5million of improvements taking place at Ealing Council’s leisure centres.

The upgrades mark the start of a new 10‑year partnership between the council and Everyone Active, which has managed leisure centres on behalf of the council since 2013. The renewed contract between the organisations started last week. The improvements by Everyone Active will modernise gyms, refresh studios, and enhance facilities at Acton Centre, Northolt Leisure Centre, Dormers Wells Leisure Centre and Brent Valley Golf Course and Fitness Centre.

What’s being improved?

Highlights include:

  • Acton Centre: work is progressing to refresh gym and studio spaces and create a new Reformer Pilates studio to help customers stretch and strengthen their bodies
  • Northolt Leisure Centre: a bigger gym and upgraded fitness equipment
  • Dormers Wells Leisure Centre: improvements to the main gym and the women’s‑only gym
  • Brent Valley Golf Course and Fitness Centre: a refurbished main gym

Further upgrades include refreshed group exercise studios, improved wet changing areas and redesigned layouts to support both individual and group activities. All works are due to be completed by autumn 2026.

Everyone Active will continue to manage Reynolds Sports Centre in Acton, Elthorne Sports Centre in Hanwell, Greenford Sports Centre, Perivale Park Athletics Track and Swift Road Outdoor Sports Centre in Southall, ensuring continuity for communities across the borough. It will also manage the new Gurnell Leisure Centre when it opens.

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “Our leisure centres play such a vital role in helping residents to be healthy, get fit and feel good. I’m delighted to see this significant investment to improve facilities and make them more accessible, modern and welcoming for everyone in our community. This long‑term partnership with Everyone Active will help us support wellbeing across the borough for years to come.”

Phil Edwards, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We are delighted to have secured this new 10-year contract with Ealing Council, which represents a significant long-term commitment to improving leisure facilities across the borough.

“This £2.5 million investment programme will enable us to deliver extensive improvements across multiple sites, modernising gyms and studios, expanding capacity where demand is growing and introducing new activities that will enhance the overall customer experience.”

Free entry

Free entry or reduced cost membership will still be available for the following groups:

  • complimentary memberships for cared‑for children and care‑experienced young people
  • free access for people with Parkinson’s and their carers
  • discounted memberships for NHS staff, emergency workers, full‑time carers and Universal Credit recipients

Free access for rising sports stars

Everyone Active is once again inviting budding athletes to apply for its Sporting Champions scheme which gives them free access to top-class training facilities at its centres, mentoring from Olympians and Paralympians and practical workshops. Last year 21 athletes from the borough became Sporting Champions.

The council’s Community Champions scheme is also now open for applications, offering support to local people who are making a real difference through projects that promote wellbeing, inclusion, culture or the environment. They do not have to be sports-related projects. Successful applicants will receive access to Everyone Active facilities to help them deliver their work and strengthen connections across the borough’s communities.

The deadline for applying for either of these schemes is Friday 20 March.
