White Ribbon Day is on Tuesday 25 November and it marks the start of a series of activities across the borough led by the Safer Ealing Partnership.
White Ribbon Day supports the international campaign calling for the end of male violence against women and girls. The events are part of the global 16 Days of Activism on Gender-Based Violence which runs every year from 25 November, which is also the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
The white ribbon is a symbol of hope for a world free from gender-based violence. The theme for White Ribbon Day this year is ‘We Speak Up’.
What we are doing in the borough
Ealing Council and its partners are taking action to make the borough safer. Since 2022, the council has:
- consulted more than 3,000 women and girls through the Safer Ealing listening exercise to shape improvements
- created a new Safer Ealing website to provide local information, advice, and reporting options
- secured four years of funding from the mayor to continue delivering the Women’s Wellness Zone – a one-stop service supporting women with complex needs.
- introduced a new licensing policy that promotes women’s safety in nightlife by encouraging venues to sign up to the mayor’s Women’s Night Safety Charter
- brought additional safety requirements into licence conditions to help prevent harassment and violence
- invested £1million to improve street lighting
- installed 43 new CCTV cameras, bringing the total to 736 cameras across the borough

‘Speak up, learn and take action’
Councillor Jasbir Anand, the council’s cabinet member for tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, said: ” Violence against women and girls has absolutely no place in our borough. We are taking stronger, more decisive action this year to combat it. The 16 Days of Activism is not just a moment to reflect; it is a call to action for our whole community and a commitment to do more.
“We are strengthening safety across our streets and public spaces, improving support for survivors, and working closely with partners to challenge harmful behaviour wherever it appears. Whether it is calling out abuse, supporting survivors, or joining community events, every step matters.
“Together, we will continue driving real change and building a borough where every woman and girl feels safe, respected and protected.”
