As temperatures rise, people across the borough will be heading outdoors to enjoy our open spaces. We are lucky to live in a borough with a fantastic variety of open spaces. It is a defining feature of our borough that we have wonderful access to nature right on our doorstep.
We have an ambitious plan to grow and improve our green spaces. We are continuing to deliver on our promise to open 10 new parks. In the next couple of weeks, we will be announcing an update on our work at Warren Farm. We have made significant progress on our plans to declare the site a local nature reserve and acquire the adjoining land and restore the playing fields and changing rooms.
Its truly a best of both worlds solution to preserve the gains for local wildlife through rewilding but also ensuring that people in Hanwell and Southall have their access to sporting facilities restored.
We planted over 13,000 trees last year across the borough. We are also working with Ealing Wildlife Group to bring back native species that have been lost to the borough. We have bought beavers back to provide a natural solution to preventing floods and we have seen the reintroduction of harvest mice.
This work is a great example of the what an amazing community we have in our borough. Part of the solution to big global issues like climate change and species loss are local community based action and that’s what’s happening right here in our borough.
Everyone in our borough should have access to high quality outdoor space, with a mix of nature and sports provision. As an administration we are delivering on that commitment.
