Welcome to the spring 2023 edition of Around Ealing magazine. You can view it in PDF format and as an interactive e-magazine below.
For many people, spring can’t come soon enough. With energy bills going ever higher, a change in the weather will be a welcome relief. In the meantime, warm spaces in the community are doing their bit to help (see page 8) and Healthy Homes Ealing is offering advice (p11).
Spring cleans are a bit of a cliché but how about a spring upcycle instead? In Acton, a new store and a market are leading the way on giving unloved items a new lease of life (p26‑27).
Also, don’t miss the wonderful wildlife conservation work taking place in the borough – at Hanwell Zoo (p23) and with the rewilding of beavers in the borough (p20-21).
We meet the foster carer of the year, and a local GP who is turning her doctor surgery green and we also heard from parents about how helpful the Holiday Activities and Food programme is in school holiday time.
Elsewhere in the magazine, we look at how the council is helping people to find jobs (p33) and apprenticeships (p34-35). We also visited new temporary housing for people with nowhere to live (p14-15), and we find out why the council has pleaded with the government to allow it to help rough sleepers (p17).
Do you drink tea? Have you ever wondered what happens to your humble teabag after you have made a cuppa? Wonder no more. Take a look at pages 28-29 to find out more.
