Around Ealing magazine – September 2017

This is the September 2017 edition of Around Ealing magazine, writes editor Richard Nadal. There is a focus on education and schools at the front part of the magazine, with it being the beginning of a new academic year. You can open the magazine in two formats below: As an interactive digital version or as a PDF.

My niece started school recently; and my son starts next year. So the start of a new term in September has a stronger resonance for me than usual. It is a time of butterflies in the stomach for some, and excitement for others. Some things never change. But other things do, and Stanhope and Selborne primary schools in Greenford are testament to that. I recommend you read the story on pages 8-9, and be impressed by how they are influencing habits – and health. The results are there for all to see.

Ealing Half Marathon is also in September. It is now a race of national renown but less known is its hugely successful work within our schools to encourage children to get active. You can read more on pages 12-13.

Sport is also used as an agent for change by a programme called Street Elite, which has affected a number of young lives – read more on pages 38-39.
