Around Ealing Autumn 2016

Around Ealing magazine – Autumn 2016

It is the autumn edition once more. How time flies. The summer is almost over and the academic term is about to begin.

Accordingly, as we always do at this time of the year, we have given a significant portion of the front half of the autumn issue of the magazine over to schools – including applying for places at high school (pages 10-11) and a fun new way to encourage children to stay active (pages 16-17). The pupils at Hambrough
Primary we met were certainly enthusiastic.

If you are at the other end of the education process and looking at what to do after school, read our article on apprenticeships (pages 24-25).

What else is in the autumn edition?

There is important information on changes to benefits (pages 34-35), and a wide range of news and features including transport improvements (p32-33), Age UK Ealing taking over a community centre (pages 28-29), and a cycling project (pages 46-47).

You can also read an interview with the borough’s mayor and the story of how she began life in Gateshead in a political household; find out how a new scheme is helping small and medium sized businesses to save energy – and money; and learn about some of the borough’s key conservation sites.

A support group for carers and relatives of people with mental health problems is also featured, and its founder explains how it all started and the difference it is making to those who now see it as a lifeline.

I would also like to direct you to the page outlining the expected details for the borough’s three key services for Remembrance this November.

Finally, there are the regulars you expect to see – the Up Front section, the councillors’ contact details, the Leader’s Notes, and our local history feature – which, this time, is about a man as well known for his archaeology as for his civic involvement in the area.
